BRADLEY METHOD
Child Birth Classes

With Lauren Amand

The Bradley Method is a system of natural labor techniques using abdominal breathing combined with relaxation. You and your partner will learn comfort measures, relaxation techniques, positions to facilitate the progress of labor and pain management techniques. Women are encouraged to trust their bodies and become empowered as active participants in their babies’ birth. I show DVD’s in most classes.  You will see births in a variety of settings; hospitals, birthing centers and home. Couples also learn about the emotional stages of labor and how to support the laboring women. During the series we discuss the risks and benefits of various procedures so couples can make informed choices. We also cover breastfeeding positions, techniques and benefits as well as postpartum adjustment and newborn care.

As part of the series Karen Lee, Director of Breathing Time Yoga teaches a couples’ prenatal yoga class.  In this class you will learn postures for reducing back pain in pregnancy. Couples also practice intensity exercises which serve to increase mental focus and partner connection and presence.

This series also includes a class with Shiatsu Therapist Karlo Berger. Karlo will teach birth partners acupressure and massage techniques that can reduce pain and discomfort during pregnancy and labor and assist the progression of labor.  Karlo also addresses the birth experience and partners’ role from the perspective of the birth partner/father.

Bradley Method® Childbirth Educator, DONA Birth & Postpartum Doula

“I have been teaching childbirth since 2003 after having been inspired by the beautiful, natural births of our two sons.  I continue to be amazed by the transformative power of pregnancy and birth. Our babies' births were the most intensely joyful, spiritual, beautiful experiences of my life.

She is am a DONA certified birth and postpartum doula.   I’m also a certified childbirth educator with The American Academy of Husband-Coached Childbirth (The Bradley Method®).  My background includes a B.S. in Human Development Counseling and Family Studies and 15 years experience in social services and education.

In addition to my commitment to gentle birth, I enjoy kayaking, gardening, relaxing on the beach with my family and friends and spending time with my children as they grow into kind, amazing individuals.
