AYURVEDIC PRACTICES FOR AUTUMN

With Susan Krantz

Fall and Winter in New England - the weather shifts to cold and dry - some of us hibernate and catch up on projects, others take to the slopes and enjoy winter sports.

Either way our skin gets dry, the days grow shorter, our moods may change, sleep may change due to shorter days, and digestion may be affected. We experience cold/wind and maybe even get the flu or a raspy cough.

So to make the colder weather love you, you've got to give yourself a little TLC and learn how to keep warm internally as well as externally when the weather gets cold and windy.

The Open Secret of Yoga: Pranayama

The Open Secret of Yoga: Pranayama

with Susan Krantz and Karen Lee

Yoga has the potential to transform and pranayama is one of the most powerful transformational tools of yoga.

The open secret of yoga is pranayama. Most yoga classes only teach asana, or poses. Asana helps the body feel better and the mind to settle. Pranayama, or regulation of the breath, can transform body and mind, as well as balance your energy.

With pranayama practice you can...
  • Focus the mind and develop clarity
  • Calm excess energy associated with anxiety
  • Dispell lethargy and increase vitality
This class is an introduction to pranayama, and the first class in a ten class series that will take place over the next year.

About the Instructor, Susan Krantz
Susan Krantz started yoga after a shoulder injury that was difficult to heal. Part of the recovery process was learning about her body, mind, spirit and heart – their strengths and limitations. The more subtle important aspects of yoga were revealed to her during the recovery process, such as breathing techniques to calm and focus her mind, meditation, the value of rest and sleeping through the entire night, eating fresh food, becoming more conscious of her actions and their consequences, and listening to what her heart was leading her toward.

She has a daily personal yoga practice to manage her energy levels, to stay connected with her hearts desire; meditates to remain grounded in life so that she lives a joyful, healthy and full life. She teaches to share the deeper meaning of the incredible wisdom of yoga to help others find their inner peace, remain grounded, heal from injury/pain and positively further personal endeavors.

She was first certified to teach yoga by Pat Bruno Director of Pathways Yoga Systems, (Exeter, N.H.) in 1998. In 2000, she met Gary Kraftsow at the American Viniyoga Institute (AVI) in Maui at the Art of Personal Practice retreat that he and Mirka Kraftsow taught. She then went on to study and receive Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist certifications through AVI. She continues to study Ayurveda, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra’s (the foundation of yoga training), and Ayurveda.
